104 year Old Underwent Bipolar Hip Replacement at Metro Hospital Faridabad

Mr. Ram Lal, 104 years old sustained fracture around RT hip joint after falling at his home. He became bed ridden and was in severe pain. He visited Metro Hospital Faridabad after 7 days of injury and consulted Dr. Sujoy Kr. Bhattacharjee, Director, Joint Replacement Surgery.
 
His surgery was difficult because of age and osteoporosis. Patient was investigated and was very high risk because of age and associated co-morbidities. After all evaluation and investigation, bipolar replacement of RT hip was done successfully on 23rd March 2018 and he recovered satisfactory. He started walking with support from next day. Discharged from hospital on 26th March 2018 walking on his own.  Mr. Ram Lal told us that "I am delighted with the success of the surgery and so grateful to the doctor and the team for reliving my pain. Dr. Sujoy Bhattacharjee says “It was challenging for us as, at this age, the bones get really weak. And, at the same time, taking decision for the surgery was in itself difficult due to the age of the patient. But the relief in this case was that the family was really cooperative and they wanted him to walk rather than spend rest of his life on a wheelchair.

He added that this is one of the oldest patient in the world to undergo partial hip replacement, earlier also Dr. Sujoy and his team have operated on 96 year old doctor for bilateral knee replacement in 2014 and patient is still doing well and practicing.
