Iraqi Patient Underwent Successful Prostate Cancer Surgery by Modified Technique at Metro Hospital Faridabad

 Fifty five years old Iraqi patient with prostate cancer presented at the Metro hospital, Faridabad. He was evaluated in his native country Iraq for difficulty in passing urine and was found to have prostate cancer. Doctors, there in Iraq, advised him surgery but he was very much scared of two common side effect of this surgery i.e. urine leakage and erectile dysfunction. So then he started searching out for a better treatment options to treat his medical condition. On the recommendation of his friend, he visited Metro Hospital, Faridabad and consulted Dr. Rajiv Kumar Sethia, Sr. Consultant in Urology & Renal transplant Department. After all evaluations, he was told that with modified version of surgery i.e. nerve sparing radical prostatectomy there will be very less chance of erectile dysfunction & urine leakage.

Prostate is a small gland in men that sits right below the urinary bladder. The size of prostate normally increases with age, but when a man has prostate cancer, the cells of the prostate begin to increase rapidly. Early stages of prostate cancer usually have minimal symptoms, but it can show up as difficulty in passing urine, blood in urine or semen, decreased urine stream, bone pain, erectile dysfunction or sometime no symptoms at all.

This Iraqi patient underwent successful nerve sparing radical prostatectomy with bilateral pelvic lymph nodes dissection here at Metro Hospital, Faridabad. He recovered very well and is having a very good control over urination and preserved sexual function. Two common side effects of this surgery i.e. urine leakage and erectile dysfunction are not seen in this patient.
