Navigated Minimally Invasive Unicompartmental knee replacement: A New Era in Knee Replacement surgery

54 year old patient from Rohtak with difficult in walking and severe pain in right knee was brought to Metro Hospital Faridabad. Her pain & suffering were increasing day by day. When patient was investigated it was found that she is suffering from Knee Osteoarthritis, but luckily only medial compartment of her knee was damaged. Hence a decision of unicompartmental knee replacement with navigation was taken. After successful surgery patient is walking pain free.
Knee Osteoarthritis is a condition in which the natural cushioning between joints & cartilage wears away. When this happens, the bones of the joints rub more closely against one another which results in pain, swelling, stiffness, decreased ability to move and, sometimes, the formation of bone spurs.

It is a well-known fact that success of knee replacement as well as longevity of implanted knee depends upon the placement of prosthesis in accurate position. Minimally invasive techniques are now being used to decrease surgical trauma. However, there is concern regarding accurate placement of implant with minimally invasive technique which we have overcome by use of computer navigation.

Dr. Sujoy Kr. Bhattacharjee, Director, Joint Replacement Surgery said that the best possible surgical technique is being used with the combination of both minimally invasive technique as well as sophisticated computer navigation system. This technique is regularly being employed for surgery at our hospital and the result of combination of these two techniques are excellent.

Benefits of Navigated Minimally Invasive UKR are less pain, restoration of function and movement with improved quality of life, smaller incisions, less blood loss, faster recovery, better range of movement and a natural feeling knee.
