37-year-old Ramesh (Name Changed) had difficulty in respiration and then on detailed evaluation he was found to have end stage renal disease because of uncontrolled hypertension, which he was never aware of. Doctors advised him that best treatment of this problem is kidney transplant. His father decided to donate one kidney to him. But on evaluation his father was found to have weak heart (Poor ejection fraction) which was major risk factor during surgery for anesthesia.
But then he met Dr Gaurav Sahai, Nephrologist at Metro Heart Institute & Multispecialty, Faridabad, who assured them that surgery is possible here because of a very good cardiology team. cardiology team lead by Dr S.S Bansal, Sr. international cardiologist, evaluated the donor and started the treatment of heart failure. After 2 weeks of treatment kidney transplant surgery was done, which went very well. This was a big success for patient’s family and treating medical team.
Dr S.S Bansal said that these type of donor with poor cardiac function can also undergo surgery for organ donation after cardiac optimization with proper medications.
Dr Rajiv Kumar Sethia, Urologist & Kidney Transplant Surgeon said that laparoscopic donor surgery is risky in such types of donor with poor cardiac function, but we did it in a very short time to decrease the risk during surgery.
Dr Gaurav Sahai, Nephrologist and transplant physician, said that usually such types of donors are rejected for donation at most of the centers but because of highly qualified and experienced cardiology team backup, it was possible here in Metro heart Institute with Multispecialty Faridabad. He said this will become a big example for those donors who were declared unfit because of poor cardiac function and now more and more donors will come forward for such a noble cause.
